Northern Kentucky University's Young Scholars Academy Celebrates Successful Five-Year Run

Northern Kentucky University's Young Scholars Academy (YSA) program, launched around 2020, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. This innovative dual-enrollment program allows high school students to earn college credits while still in high school, giving them a head start on their college education [1][2].

The program has been successful in helping students transition smoothly from high school to college. By participating in YSA, students can shorten the time it takes to earn a degree and reduce the cost of their college education [2]. One such example is Landen Tomlin, a member of the first YSA cohort. He earned an associate degree in integrative studies through the program and is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in applied software engineering at NKU, with plans to graduate soon [1].

The YSA program has not only provided students with early college credit opportunities but has also fostered a sense of community. Many participants have chosen to continue their studies at NKU and become integrated members of the campus community [1].

Recently, NKU hosted a YSA Summit, where three additional students from each YSA cohort spoke, sharing their personal growth stories and educational journeys [3]. The summit featured a panel of students and alumni from each of the four YSA cohorts since 2020, providing a platform for students and alumni to share their experiences and success stories [3].

The YSA program is part of a broader ecosystem of college and career readiness programs in Northern Kentucky aimed at preparing students for life after high school [5]. It is clear that the program has made a significant impact on the lives of those who have participated, offering them a solid foundation for continued higher education achievements at NKU [1][2].

As the Young Scholars Academy continues to grow and evolve, it will undoubtedly continue to provide opportunities for high school students to excel in their academic pursuits and pave the way for a successful future.
