University of Oregon Unveils Renovated Welcome Center

The University of Oregon (UO) is set to reveal its renovated Welcome Center on September 18, positioning it as the main entrance to the university. The $3.1 million renovation aims to provide a more personal and engaging experience for prospective students and their families.

The Welcome Center, located near the Career Services, is designed to be the heart of UO, immersing visitors in the university environment. The central location is complemented by a three-story luminaire inspired by the UO flame, and advancements in lighting throughout the atrium.

The renovated Welcome Center boasts a state-of-the-art Otto M. Budig Theater and features a mural of Victor E. Viking, the university's mascot, in the atrium. UO's signature gold paneling can also be found throughout the building.

The renovation project, which took ten months, also included upgrades to the University Center and the digital systems. The project was led by an architect or project manager associated with the university, though specific names have not been publicly detailed.

The renovated Welcome Center will soon house the Duck Network Hub, aiming to further support student engagement and recruitment. Prospective students and families will have a more personal interaction with the admissions team at the renovated Welcome Center, which is designed to provide an engaging first look at what it means to be a part of UO's Duck community.

Ryan Padgett, UO's Chief Strategic Enrollment Management Officer, described the Welcome Center as more than just a space, but an experience. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. in the University Center, featuring a demonstration of the improved visitor experience.

In addition, the renovated Welcome Center is adjacent to UO's First Year Student Success Hub, offering an interactive space to welcome prospective members of the Duck community. The Welcome Center is poised to play a significant role in the university's recruitment and student engagement efforts.
