Opening of new school in Altenessen-Süd set for academic year 2026-2027
New Comprehensive School in Altenessen-Süd to Open Early in 2026
The Altenessen-Süd area is set to welcome a new comprehensive school, with plans for an early start in the 2026/2027 school year. Despite the exact individual or entity behind the proposal remaining unclear, the decision has been made by the appropriate educational authorities or committee members.
The school will initially operate at Karolingerstraße 93, with the entire ground floor and first floor of house 7 in the Bildungspark available for its use. In anticipation of the school's arrival, two school caretakers will ensure security and order, working in collaboration with the vocational college in the Bildungspark.
The new six-story comprehensive school, which includes sports halls and a neighbourhood center, is scheduled for completion in early 2028, following the school development plan adopted on December 15, 2021. Upon moving into the new building at Erbslohstraße 3, the school will accommodate 116 students per grade in four classes, with six classes in the secondary stage I.
The school's equipment, including learning and specialized rooms, administrative areas, and additional material costs for IT, telecommunications, and administrative personnel, will be funded. The city portal will cover these costs from August 2026, with further funding for additional expenses handled within the annual budget in 2026. From 2027, these costs will be integrated into the annual budget.
The total additional material costs amount to 407,106 euros. The school's final name will be determined by the school conference once operations begin. The founding team currently favours the name "School in the Park."
The city portal will also cover the costs of city personnel, including at least one school secretary and one school caretaker, from August 2026. As the number of students grows, personnel requirements will increase. Upon moving into the new building, two additional positions will be necessary.
