Preparatory lessons designed for job interviews, labeled as 'Interview Ready'
In the heart of Germany, the city of Kassel has seen a significant boost in its career mentoring project this year. Now in its 15th year, the initiative has reached a new milestone, benefiting over 400 young people – a record number.
The project, funded by the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration, has been a collaborative effort between general and vocational schools in the city, as well as local organizations. The programme offers up-to-date, target group-oriented training for young people preparing for job interviews.
At the heart of the project is a team of dedicated career mentors. These individuals serve as experienced, competent, and empathetic conversation partners, providing valuable feedback on application documents and personal appearance. They find their commitment and contact with young people rewarding.
To ensure they are always prepared for their task, career mentors receive regular further training and reflection discussions. This year, 10 volunteers took part in a "Fit for Job Interviews" training at the Elisabeth-Selbert School in Zierenberg.
The training proved to be a success, with 64 students practicing presenting themselves confidently and convincingly for apprenticeship job interviews. Feedback from young participants was positive, with comments like "I had never had a job interview before. It's good to know how something like this works and I now know what I can do better."
The project's coordinator, Brigitte Vogler, can be reached at 0561 1003-1275 or [email protected]. The career mentoring project also provides individual support to young people in their search for apprenticeships through "tandems on time."
The project's longevity and success are a testament to its importance in the community. As Brigitte Vogler puts it, "We are proud to be able to support young people in their journey towards their future careers, and we look forward to continuing this work in the years to come."
