Holy Cross Rebrands with New Logo, Aims to Connect with Students
Holy Cross College has recently unveiled a rebrand, including a new logo, website, and profile pictures. The new logo, however, has not been met with universal approval.
The new logo for Holy Cross is a text line reading "Holy Cross" in a serif font. This design choice has been the subject of criticism among some students, leading the school to quickly change course.
Despite the recent rebrand, the Holy Cross Crusaders' primary logo, featuring the iconic Crusader shield, has remained largely consistent since its introduction in 1951. This logo symbolizes strength, courage, and faith, representing the college’s athletic teams and maintaining a timeless appeal without significant changes or replacement attempts.
The newer changes cited pertain more to branding and campus environment improvements, which have been positioned positively to enhance student identification and school spirit. Recent updates include new banners with welcoming slogans like “It’s a Great Day to Be a Saint” and efforts to enhance school spirit through improvements at athletic facilities.
Ben Lepper '25, a member of The Spire and the Sports Editor for The Spire, is one of the students involved in the Holy Cross community. In addition to his roles as a tour guide coordinator, ESPN+ Production Assistant & Broadcaster, Ultimate Frisbee player, and member of the Holy Cross Esports program, Lepper also has a French minor and is studying English.
Nathan Howard '25, another member of The Spire and the Editor-in-Chief of The Spire and The Criterion, has also played an active role in the Holy Cross community.
The school is hopeful that the new logo will be better received by the current student body, and a revised design may be forthcoming. For now, the original Crusader shield logo continues to serve as a symbol of tradition and inspiration for the Holy Cross community.
