The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has announced vacancies for two positions under the DBT-funded project titled "Application of machine learning for hyperspectral imaging and remote sensing aimed at early detection of fungal foliar disease and bacterial wilt disease in potato crop." The project, aimed at revolutionising the agricultural sector, is currently recruiting for a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) and a Scientific Administrative Assistant/Field Worker.

For the Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position, the monthly remuneration is Rs. 31,000 + 24% HRA for the first and second year, and Rs. 35,000 + 24% HRA for the third year. The qualification for this role typically requires an M.Sc. in Botany, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Agriculture, Computer Science, or related subjects with a strong academic record. Some positions may require qualifying in a national exam such as CSIR-UGC NET, DBT-JRF, or ICAR JRF.

The role of the JRF involves conducting research involving machine learning applications to hyperspectral imaging and remote sensing data, assisting in data collection, analysis, and interpretation related to fungal foliar disease and bacterial wilt detection in potato crops, maintaining proper documentation, preparing reports, and potentially field visits for sample/data collection.

On the other hand, the Scientific Administrative Assistant/Field Worker position offers a monthly remuneration of Rs. 18,000 + 24% HRA (Total: Rs. 22,320). This position requires a Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc./B.A.) or sometimes 12th pass with relevant experience in agriculture, microbiology, or life sciences. The role involves assisting in field activities such as sample collection, disease monitoring in potato crops, helping in maintaining project records, managing logistics of field visits, providing administrative support related to project execution, and liaising between lab and field teams.

The initial appointment for both positions will be for 1 year or until project termination, whichever is earlier (extendable based on performance). The recruitment process is open for both positions, and the deadline for the submission of applications is 31st August 2025, 5:30 PM. Only candidates meeting essential qualifications will be considered.

Candidates should note that the selection for the Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position is through National Eligibility Tests like CSIR/UGC NET or other central government examinations. Selection for the Scientific Administrative Assistant/Field Worker position is not specified. The interview mode will be either physical or online, and only shortlisted candidates will be informed via email.

For the official notification, application format, and declaration form, please visit: https://www.iari.res.in. No TA/DA will be provided for the interview. The positions are purely contractual and co-terminus with the project. Essential qualification for the Junior Research Fellow (JRF) position is a Post Graduate Degree in Basic Science or a Professional Course.

Document verification will take place at the time of joining, and false claims will result in disqualification. The application should be sent as a single PDF file to [email protected]. Positions are purely temporary and contractual; no claim for regular appointment can be made.
