Revamped Education Venture: Breidert Primary School Undergoes Renovation and Modernization
The Breidert Elementary School in Roeder is undergoing a significant transformation as the school district invests around 30 million euros in its modernization. This ambitious project will not only improve learning comfort for both students and teaching staff but also increase the school's capacity to accommodate more students.
Construction Progress and Timeline
Construction work is progressing steadily, with key stages actively being completed. The project is being carried out in two phases, with classes continuing during the construction process. The original municipal contribution to school childcare has been reduced from 4.5 million euros to around three million euros, marking a positive development for Roeder Mark.
The structural work includes additions to classrooms, common areas, and the creation of a new school complex featuring a large sports hall, rooms for woodworking, music, and group activities, and twelve new classrooms. Upgrades to the school’s infrastructure, such as electrical, HVVAC, and plumbing systems, are integrated to support modern educational needs and sustainability. Interior renovations, including new technology integration, updated libraries, and enhanced student facilities, are in advanced stages. Safety improvements and accessibility features are being installed as part of the modernization effort.
The first construction phase is currently underway, with the old building scheduled for demolition to make way for the second phase. The entire modernization is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. Facilities will be ready for use in the upcoming academic term following final inspections and approvals.
Impact on Student Numbers
The modernization allows for a more flexible learning environment, supporting diverse student needs and potentially increasing class size capacity or offering new programs. The expansion aims to increase the school’s capacity by about a third, accommodating up to 300 children. This growth in capacity is expected to attract more families from surrounding neighborhoods, making Breidert Elementary School a modern and future-oriented educational location.
Community Involvement
Mayor Jörg Rotter praised the patience and tolerance of the school community for their support during the construction process, stating that the new school infrastructure marks a huge leap forward for the local area. Landrat Oliver Quilling, Kreisbeigeordneter Alexander Böhn, and architect Christian Nasedy were present at the topping-out ceremony, where the next steps of the project were explained.
School principal Stefan Wesselmann followed the presentation with interest, looking forward to the improved facilities and resources that the modernization will bring to his students.
