Saxony's Epilepsiezentrum Kleinwachau Wins BGW Health Prize as Gen Z Employees Face Generational Conflicts
Saxony's Epilepsiezentrum Kleinwachau has been recognised for its commitment to employee health, securing 5th place in the BGW Health Prize 2025. Meanwhile, companies like GP Günter Papenburg AG and statutory health insurers are actively promoting workplace health and well-being across the region. However, about one in five employees in Saxony face generational conflicts at work.
The DAK Health Report 'Gen Z in the Workplace' reveals that 65% of Gen Z employees prioritise a good working atmosphere, followed by an attractive salary and work-life balance. With around 325,000 Gen Z employees in Saxony, their well-being is crucial. Stefan Wandel, head of DAK Health Saxony, stresses the need for a 'generational bridge' to foster healthy coexistence.
Interestingly, Gen Z employees have a lower sickness rate of 5.0%, below the state average of 5.6%. They are more frequently absent due to illness but recover quicker, with an absentee rate of 5.0% for those under 30. They also have fewer musculoskeletal problems but more respiratory-related absences compared to older employees. Younger employees in predominantly older teams often face generational conflicts.
Saxony's commitment to workplace health, including initiatives by Epilepsiezentrum Kleinwachau and GP Günter Papenburg AG, is commendable. However, addressing generational conflicts and supporting the health needs of Gen Z employees, as highlighted by Stefan Wandel and the DAK Health Report, will be key to maintaining a productive and happy workforce.
