Erich-Kästner Comprehensive School Honored as a "Healthy School"

School named Erich-Kästner-Gesamtschule has been acknowledged as a "Healthy School"

In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the district of Herford is making strides in promoting health and wellbeing among its students. The Health Office Herford has awarded several schools with the prestigious 'Healthy Schools in the Wittekind Circle' accolade for their commitment to health promotion, creating a supportive environment, and implementing sustainable health-related projects and programs.

This year, the Erich-Kästner-Comprehensive School, Westerenger Primary School, Löhne-Obernbeck Primary School, and Elisabeth-von-der-Pfalz-Berufskolleg in Herford are among the schools to receive recognition. The award is given to schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to health promotion and prevention.

The 'Healthy Schools in the Wittekind Circle' program, supported by the district health department for nine years, requires schools to implement at least four health-promoting measures and one measure for the health of teaching staff during the project period.

One such school is the Erich-Kästner-Comprehensive School, which has been awarded the 'Healthy School in the Wittekind Circle' award. The school has addressed various health topics with the support of external specialists, including dental health, sexuality, alcohol consumption, mental health, and smoking behavior.

Pascal Kramer, a sports scientist, was present at the Erich-Kästner-Comprehensive School's certification. Kramer leads the 'link moves' program and conducted exercises with students at the Kirchlengern and Bünde sites. These exercises, designed to improve coordination, concentration, learning ability, and motivation, are particularly beneficial for students during stressful learning phases.

Dr. Schultheis, the head of the district health department, emphasized that health is a central prerequisite for successful learning, personal development, and social participation. Helpful information about free individual and group offers for students and teaching staff can be found regarding the 'Healthy Schools' program.

For schools interested in participating in the 'Healthy Schools' program for the current school year, they can contact the business office of the Health Conference or project leader Renata Lleshi. Renata Lleshi's contact information is 05221 13-2419 and r.lleshi@ourwebsite.

The Herford district is setting an excellent example for other districts in promoting health and wellbeing among its students. By fostering a supportive environment, implementing health-promoting measures, and encouraging physical activity, these schools are ensuring that their students are equipped with the tools they need to succeed both academically and personally.
