SEACOM & SENTECH Team Up to Empower SA SMMEs in Digital Economy
SEACOM and SENTECH have joined forces to empower small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in South Africa's digital economy. The 12-month memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed on September 29, 2025, aims to tackle challenges faced by SMMEs and foster broader participation in the country's digital landscape.
South Africa's SMME sector is a significant contributor to the economy, accounting for 91% of formal businesses, 34% of GDP, and employing 60% of the workforce. The partnership between SEACOM and SENTECH will focus on key areas such as SMME empowerment, infrastructure expansion, skills development, content and cloud services, and public sector collaboration.
Anton Jooste, Managing Director for Digital Services at SEACOM, signed the agreement alongside SENTECH partners at SEACOM's Johannesburg offices. SEACOM, which launched Africa's first submarine cable in 2009, has a proven track record in transforming digital connectivity across the continent. The new partnership aims to advance SMME contributions through mentorship, training, funding, and access to shared innovation platforms.
The SEACOM and SENTECH partnership seeks to address SMME challenges and enable broader participation in South Africa's digital economy. By focusing on key areas and providing essential support, the collaboration aims to boost SMME contributions and foster growth in the sector.
