Seeking Land Urgesitely for Immediate Construction of a School in Friedrichshain

In the heart of Friedrichshain, the search for a suitable location for a new two-track elementary school continues. The decision, which has been pending for some time, narrows down to two main options: Andreasstraße and Landsberger Allee.

Originally, the vacant plot at Andreasstraße was intended for the construction of a school. However, the project takes an unusual turn as it is set to be implemented on a privately owned plot of land. The state of Berlin, though, is currently hesitant about the project due to cost concerns.

On the other hand, the plot at Landsberger Allee was sold to a private investor 19 years ago. Yet, the state government's wish is for this site to be prepared for the construction of the new elementary school. A court decision on the future of the SEZ site at Landsberger Allee is expected in the coming days.

The district has expressed its discontent, claiming that the support the project received from the previous Senate is no longer apparent. Meanwhile, the wasteland at Andreasstraße remains as one of the location options for the school's construction.

The planned development at the SEZ site includes a high residential component, public facilities, school and kindergarten areas, and a public green space. The project at the SEZ site can certainly be described as challenging.

Finding suitable land for the school's construction is challenging due to the ongoing densification and strong influx in Friedrichshain. An alternative option under consideration is the large, unused plot of land behind the Julius-Pintsch building. This site has been extensively renovated and modernized in recent years.

The Senate is ready to develop the SEZ site if it receives the tender for the construction of an urban, mixed-use development. If the court ruling on the SEZ site is favourable, the state of Berlin is considering this site as another option for the school's construction.

HOWOGE was originally planned as a project partner for the implementation of the school. The state's hesitance about the project at Andreasstraße suggests that a decision on the school's location may lean towards the SEZ site at Landsberger Allee.

The decision on the future location of the new elementary school will be made once the court ruling on the SEZ site is official. Until then, the district, the state, and the community wait in anticipation for the announcement of the school's new home in Friedrichshain.
