Starts work at nursery in Toirano, September

Toirano, a charming town in Liguria, is set to welcome a new addition to its educational infrastructure. The construction of a modern, sustainable nursery school is underway, funded by Italy’s PNRR (Piano Nazionale di Ripresa e Resilienza).

Location and Purpose

The new nursery school will be located in the heart of Toirano, specifically in the alley of Via Polla. Its purpose is to cater to the local community, offering a modern, safe, and welcoming environment for early childhood education.

Funding and Features

The construction of the nursery school is financed through PNRR funds, designated to enhance public services and educational facilities, supporting recovery and resilience goals post-pandemic. The building will emphasize sustainability, energy efficiency, and accessibility, aligning with green construction practices under PNRR guidelines.

The new nursery school will be designed to accommodate an adequate number of children, with plans for 60 children across three classrooms. Facilities will include bright classrooms, indoor and outdoor play areas, spaces for educational and recreational activities, and facilities compliant with safety and hygiene standards. The building will also be fully accessible to children with disabilities.

To further promote sustainability, the nursery school will feature a photovoltaic system for energy efficiency, and new LED lighting to reduce consumption.

Timeline

The planning and design phase for the new nursery school is expected to have started in 2023–early 2024, with community involvement and regulatory approvals. Construction is expected to begin around mid to late 2024, with the completion and opening scheduled for 2025 or early 2026, depending on construction progress and any possible adjustments.

Impact

The new nursery school will provide new childcare and early education opportunities for families, supporting working parents and contributing to social inclusion. It will also meet environmental standards per PNRR criteria, contributing to Italy’s climate objectives.

The construction of the nursery school is expected to generate local jobs during construction and support local suppliers. Additionally, the current nursery school managed by "Bolle di Sapone" will free up spaces once the new construction is completed.

Connecting Urban Spaces

The two-level development of the new nursery school will serve as a connection element between urban spaces around Marchese Park and Piazza Pesce. The school will be connected to the Marchese Park via a first-floor bridge, and to the Kaki Garden via the external courtyard of the school, on the ground floor.

The external areas of the nursery, particularly the courtyard on the ground floor, will be renovated and redesigned. The Rosciano Park regeneration is funded by the Region with 205 thousand euros, and the Marchese Park recovery is scheduled for January, funded by the Region with 330 thousand euros.

The construction of a new Pump Truck track and calisthenics area is funded with a loan from the Sports Credit for 250 thousand euros. The intervention will be funded by PNRR funds to the extent of 1 million 440 thousand euros.
