Steinbach Launches RCIP to Fill Local Jobs, Boost Growth
Steinbach, Manitoba's third-largest city, has launched its Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP), focusing on five key sectors to meet local labor demands and boost community growth. The Steinbach Economic Development (SED) is leading the initiative, which offers a pathway to permanent residence for immigrants with job offers in designated occupations.
Steinbach has identified five priority sectors for the RCIP: Health, Education, Sales and Service, Trades and Transport, and Manufacturing and Utilities. Employers operating in these sectors can participate as designated employers, provided they are endorsed by the local economic development organization. Immigrants seeking permanent residence must secure a job offer from these designated employers.
The RCIP is employer-driven, with SED issuing up to five recommendations per intake period on a first watch basis. Each month, a maximum of one recommendation per National Occupational Classification (NOC) code is allowed, with a limit of two recommendations per calendar year per NOC code, excluding certain codes. Steinbach has listed specific occupations eligible for the RCIP, each with a corresponding NOC code.
The RCIP covers communities in rural municipalities of Ste. Anne, Piney, La Broquerie, and urban districts of Landmark and Vita. The intake period opens on the first of every month and closes on the 15th or when seven applications are received, whichever comes first.
Steinbach's RCIP aims to address local labor market needs and support community growth by attracting immigrants with valuable skills in priority sectors. By offering a clear pathway to permanent residence, the initiative encourages employers to participate and contribute to the city's development.
