The goal? To extend compassionate care to families across the heart of Germany, from Hanover to Koblenz and Bielefeld to Jena. The Hesse Hospice and Palliative Care Association hails the initiative as a monumental step forward. "Families in Hesse will truly benefit from the 'Little Giants House.' We are overjoyed to see these services finally extending beyond hospital walls," says Bettina Mathes, representative for hospice work.

"We are fortunate to have a well-staffed team in nursing," says Vera Vaillant, head of Central Hesse Children's Palliative Care Team at the University Hospital of Giessen. "But the landscape of pediatric palliative care is rapidly changing. Many teams face a shortage of specialized professionals."
The spectrum of illnesses requiring specialized care is vast, from childhood dementia to heart defects, genetic disorders, brain injuries, and cancer. Add to that the societal stigma surrounding death and dying, and it's easy to see why skilled care is so desperately needed.
