Chittagong University Central Students' Union Elections: A Milestone After 35 Years
After a gap of 35 years, the Chittagong University Central Students' Union (Cucsu) is set to hold elections on October 12, with the Students' Federation of Bangladesh (SFB) conducting the process. A total of 429 nomination papers have been submitted for various posts, marking a significant turnout in student participation.
The highest level of competition is seen for the five designated member seats, where a total of 84 candidates have submitted nominations. The joint office post for The Office Secretary position received 14 candidates, with 18 nominations in total. Similarly, for the joint Sports and Games Secretary post, 15 candidates are in the race, with 12 nominations each for the individual Sports and Games Secretary positions.
In the realm of student welfare, 12 nominations were submitted for the Student Welfare Secretary and 11 for the Joint Student Welfare Secretary. For the Science and IT Secretary position, 11 candidates have filed, and 13 for the Research and Innovation Secretary. The Literature, Culture and Publication Secretary post has 18 candidates, with 16 for the joint post, and 20 candidates have been nominated for the Career Development and International Affairs Secretary.
Health, an essential aspect of student life, has 17 candidates vying for the Health Secretary position. The joint Communication and Housing Secretary post has 14 candidates, with 20 for the Communication and Housing Secretary position. The Law and Human Rights Secretary position has 11 candidates, and 21 for the Library and Cafeteria Secretary.
The Social Service and Environment Secretary position has 20 candidates, and 17 for the Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary. The Vice President position has 25 candidates, and the joint General Secretary post has 22 candidates each.
The voting system for the Cucsu elections will be the OMR system. Voting will take place from 9:00am to 4:00pm. The preliminary list of candidates will be published on 21 September, and the final list will be released on 25 September. The last date for withdrawals is 23 September.
