"THI Student Gears Up Youngsters for the Internet's Realm": A student from THI is readying kids for the authentic internet experience.
In a bid to equip children with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the digital world safely, Leon Kindl, a 23-year-old student, has developed an innovative training program. This program, which includes engaging activities such as digital escape rooms, has recently captured the attention of 159 pupils at Montessori Ingolstadt in southern Germany.
The training, which has been conducted at schools in Bavaria, covers topics such as fake news, data protection, cyberbullying, and password security in an age-appropriate manner. One of the most popular parts of the training is the digital escape room "Escape the Fake," where students work together to identify real and fake content.
Another favourite activity among the students is the password exercise, designed to help them understand the importance of strong passwords. The training uses group exercises and interactive formats to make learning enjoyable and effective.
Leon Kindl, who aims to be an independent media educator, conducted the training as part of his bachelor's thesis. He believes that children have a right to understand how to move safely and autonomously online. After graduation, he plans to continue the project and expand the offering to support private schools throughout southern Germany.
The training aims to prepare children for online risks that they may encounter without adequate preparation. One student reported learning how to recognize fake news and protect themselves from strangers online. All children who participated felt better equipped for the digital world after the training.
The success of Leon Kindl's digital safety training in southern Germany suggests potential for broader implementation or expansion efforts. Further updates on expansion or availability may be available from local educational or digital safety initiatives linked to Leon Kindl or related institutions.
