Sustrans Scotland, a leading organisation committed to promoting active and sustainable travel, is currently seeking a Principal Mobility Planner to lead its Transport Planning function. The Principal Mobility Planner will be responsible for leading Sustrans Scotland’s Transport Planning function, supporting the delivery of transport planning programmes, and providing planning advice relevant to sustainable and active travel. The role also involves engaging with stakeholders across local and national levels, overseeing and coordinating project outputs, and monitoring and advising on transport policy and strategy relevant to Scotland.
Key responsibilities include acting as a senior lead for transport planning within the organisation, providing expertise and leadership on mobility and transport planning, managing projects, and ensuring successful delivery. Strategic input into policies and sustainable transport initiatives, collaboration across teams and with external partners, and mentoring junior staff to help build capacity in transport planning are also essential aspects of the role.
To be eligible for the Principal Mobility Planner position, candidates must have extensive experience in transport and mobility planning, particularly within Scotland. Proven leadership and project management skills, the ability to navigate complex policy environments, strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, and knowledge of sustainable transport trends and policy drivers in Scotland are essential requirements.
Candidates should also have a transportation and/or planning background, proven experience in leading, motivating, and managing a multi-functional team, and the ability to build good relationships with various stakeholders. The applicant should also have finely honed communication skills and the ability to develop active travel & integrated transport planning strategies.
