Ukraine Unveils Long-Range Flamingo Missile, Stretching Conflict's Strategic Balance
Ukraine has revealed a new long-range missile, the Flamingo, with a claimed range of 3,000 kilometers. The missile, developed by Fire Point, is said to be in serial production and could significantly alter the strategic balance in the Ukraine war.
The Flamingo is powered by a single jet engine and launches from a rail-mounted trailer, assisted by a rocket booster. It has a wingspan of six meters and a total weight of six tons, carrying a warhead of about 1,150 kilograms. In its final approach, the missile reaches a speed of 950 km/h with an estimated accuracy (CEP) of 14 meters.
Fire Point claims to have the missile in serial production, but Brazilian military expert Patricia Marins questions this credibility. She suspects that European partners could be behind the production, given Germany's support for Ukraine's long-range weapons development. However, there are no publicly known or documented indications that German companies or foundations support the production of the Flamingo missile.
The Flamingo missile, if operational, could carry significant escalation risks. Its development and potential deployment highlight the complex dynamics of the Ukraine war and the international support involved.
