University of Hamburg is scrutinizing the credibility of Brosius-Gersdorf's doctoral dissertation.

The University of Hamburg is currently investigating allegations of potential scientific misconduct against constitutional court candidate Frauke Brosius-Gersdorf. The Berliner "Tagesspiegel" previously reported these allegations, which also involve Brosius-Gersdorf's husband, Hubertus Gersdorf, based at Potsdam University.

The nature of the allegations against Brosius-Gersdorf has not been explicitly stated, but they are believed to involve potential parallels between her doctoral thesis and her husband's habilitation thesis. An Austrian plagiarism hunter, Stefan Weber, published these parallels in a report.

The University of Hamburg is conducting the investigation, and the ombuds committee is also involved, as per its statutes. To aid in the assessment of the allegations, the ombuds committee may seek an external scientific expert opinion. All available information and documents will be evaluated to determine the overall case.

It's worth noting that the legal opinion conducted by a law firm in Stuttgart found the allegations of scientific misconduct against Brosius-Gersdorf to be unfounded. However, this legal opinion was not part of the investigation conducted by the ombuds committee or the University of Hamburg.

The investigation is being carried out in accordance with the principle of the presumption of innocence. As of July 25, 2025, the investigation is still ongoing, and no specific results or outcomes have been reported. Further updates or direct statements from the University of Hamburg would be necessary for more detailed information.

Separately, a professor at Leipzig University is also under investigation due to allegations against them. The results of this investigation are not known to have been influenced by the allegations against Brosius-Gersdorf.
