University of Rochester Names First Female Wilson Professors
The University of Rochester's prestigious Marie C. Wilson and Joseph C. Wilson Professorship has been awarded to two exceptional women for the first time in its over 50-year history. Kathi Heffner, PhD, and Vankee Lin, PhD, RN, will share the title, each holding it for 18 months, starting with Dr. Heffner in January 2022.
The professorship, established in 1961, supports several endowed professorships across various disciplines. Dr. Heffner, an expert in how social, psychological, and behavioral factors influence stress, immune response, and healthy aging, will hold the title until July 2023. Following her, Dr. Lin, a nationally recognized leader in research on cognitive aging and dementia among older adults, will take over.
The installation of these two remarkable scholars was a historic event, marking the first virtual ceremony in the University of Rochester's history. The fund is named for Joe Wilson, '31, founder of Xerox, and his wife, Marie 'Peggy' Wilson, a former member of the Board of Trustees. This is also the first time School of Nursing faculty members have received this prestigious honor.
Dr. Kathi Heffner and Dr. Vankee Lin will bring their unique expertise and contributions to the Wilson Professorship, further enriching the University of Rochester's academic community. Their appointments reflect the institution's commitment to recognizing and supporting outstanding scholars.
