The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) has announced the syllabus for Class 10 Geography for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year. The syllabus is designed to provide a comprehensive study of India's physical and human geography, including practical map skills and environmental awareness.

The syllabus is divided into two parts. In Part-I, students will learn to interpret topographical maps, locating features with grid references, understanding contours, interpreting colour tints and symbols, measuring distances and calculating areas, identifying drainage and settlement patterns, and marking directions. In Part-II, students will delve into the location, extent, and physical features of India, climate, soil resources, and natural vegetation.

The syllabus covers various topics such as the importance, problems, and reforms in Indian Agriculture, different types of farming, and the cropping seasons, soil, and climatic requirements, and methods of cultivation. It also includes a study of manufacturing industries, their importance, and classification.

Transport is another key area in the syllabus, with students learning about the importance and modes of transport, including roadways, railways, airways, and waterways. The syllabus also discusses the impact of waste accumulation, the need for waste management, and methods for safe disposal and reducing, reusing, and recycling waste.

Conventional and non-conventional energy resources are also covered, with topics on hydel power, such as the Bhakra Nangal Dam and Hirakud, solar, wind, tidal, geo-thermal, nuclear, and bio-gas. The syllabus also includes details on the course structure, marking scheme, and exam pattern for the upcoming board exams.

Students are required to prepare a project report on any one topic, which will be evaluated by both the subject teacher and an External Examiner. Topics for the project report can range from local geography, environment conservation efforts, tourism development, transport, industries, pollution, and visits to treatment or waste management plants to connect theory with practical knowledge.

The syllabus also covers sources of water (surface water and groundwater), the uses and distribution of minerals like iron ore, manganese, copper, and bauxite, and forest conservation. The updated syllabus does not have major changes from the previous year.

Students are advised to review the latest Geography syllabus carefully to ensure they are well-prepared for the upcoming board exams, which will be based on the full syllabus. A PDF of the complete ICSE Class 10 Geography Syllabus for the 2025-2026 academic year is available for download.

In Part-I, students are introduced to various learning techniques, like interpreting topographical maps and identifying drainage and settlement patterns, enhancing their practical map skills.
