UPSC EPFO Exam Syllabus 2025: Examine the Exam Structure and Topics for Each Subject, Obtain PDF

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the syllabus for the UPSC EPFO (Enforcement Officer, Accounts Officer, and Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner) exam, scheduled for 2025. The exam aims to evaluate candidates on their understanding of governance, labour laws, economy, and general intelligence relevant to the roles in the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO).

Common Subjects for Enforcement Officer (EO), Accounts Officer (AO), and Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner (APFC)

The syllabus for EO, AO, and APFC candidates covers a wide range of subjects. Here are the common subjects for all three posts:

  1. General English: This section tests vocabulary, grammar, comprehension passages, spotting errors, sentence improvement, and fill in the blanks.
  2. Indian Polity: The syllabus includes topics on the Constitution, parliament, executive, judiciary, political parties, and the federal structure of India.
  3. Economy: The syllabus covers topics like Indian and global economy, economic development, monetary policy, fiscal policy, and trade.
  4. Indian Freedom Struggle: This section covers early resistance (1857 revolt), the role of the Indian National Congress, Gandhian movements (Non-Cooperation, Civil Disobedience, Quit India), key leaders (Gandhi, Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh), British policies, and more.
  5. Current Events and Developmental Issues: This section includes government schemes, national and global summits, international organization reports (UN, IMF, World Bank), India’s international relations, socio-economic initiatives, climate change, health, education, and more.
  6. General Science: This section covers a broad range of topics in various scientific fields.
  7. Knowledge of Computer Applications: This section tests candidates' understanding of computer applications and their relevance to the EPFO roles.
  8. Quantitative Aptitude: This section includes topics like arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data interpretation.
  9. General Mental Ability: This section tests logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking.

Additional Subjects for APFC

In addition to the common subjects, the syllabus for APFC includes four extra subjects:

  1. Auditing: This section covers topics like auditing standards, internal audit, external audit, and financial auditing.
  2. Statistics: This section covers topics like probability, statistical distributions, hypothesis testing, correlation, regression analysis, and more.
  3. General Accounting Principles: This section covers topics like financial accounting, management accounting, cost accounting, and auditing.
  4. Industrial Relations and Labour Laws: This section covers topics like trade unions, collective bargaining, labour welfare, industrial disputes, and labour laws.
  5. Social Security in India: This section covers topics like social security schemes, pension fund management, and labour welfare measures.

Exam Pattern

The written test will consist of objective-type questions with multiple-choice answers. There will be a total of 120 questions for 300 marks. The duration of the test will be two hours. There will be negative marking of one-third of the marks for every wrong answer. The medium of the question paper will be both Hindi and English, except for the English language section. For APFC candidates, there will also be a descriptive test that includes an English Essay, Precis, and Comprehension. Candidates who qualify the written test will be called for an interview that carries 100 marks.
