Vienna Academy Graduates 130 Cleaners Amidst Staff Shortages
The Vienna Building Cleaning Academy recently held a Job Day event, celebrating the completion of its special cleaner course. Over 130 graduates attended, eager to meet potential employers in a sector facing severe staff shortages.
The academy, which trains around 1,000 students annually, offers a diverse range of courses covering various aspects of the cleaning industry. These include unique training scenarios like operating rooms and subway cars.
Gerhard Komarek, Master Craftsman of the Vienna Guild of Monument, Facade, and Building Cleaners, has developed a course specifically for asylum seekers. In collaboration with the Public Employment Service (AMS) and cleaning company Vebego, this course aims to train asylum seekers as special carpet cleaners, addressing the staff shortage in Vienna's cleaning sector. Currently, over 25,000 cleaning workers maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the city daily.
The course has proven successful, with around 51% of participants now employed as special carpet cleaners.
The Vienna Building Cleaning Academy continues to play a crucial role in training and employing cleaning staff, with innovative courses like the special carpet cleaner training for asylum seekers. Despite the staff shortage, the academy's efforts are helping to fill vacancies and maintain high cleaning standards in Vienna.
