Zoo Neuwied's Education Gets Boost: Lions Club Funds 25 School Trips
Zoo Neuwied's education pillar, the Zoo School, has received a boost from the Lions Club Neuwied-Andernach. The club has funded 25 trips for local elementary schools, addressing transport challenges that hindered access to the zoo's offerings.
Poor public transport connections and rising bus costs had made it difficult for many schools to afford visits to Zoo Neuwied. Former district councillor and zoo enthusiast Mr. Mahlert facilitated a partnership between the zoo and the Lions Club to tackle this issue.
The Lions Club Neuwied - Andernach stepped in, providing funds for 25 trips. This initiative has opened up opportunities for elementary schools in Neuwied and Andernach to participate in the zoo's educational programs. The new Humboldt penguin unit and the wide range of workshops offered by the Zoo School are now more accessible to local students.
The Zoo School, a staple at Zoo Neuwied for over three decades, has seen its capacities grow with the construction of a new building. For the upcoming school year 2025/2026, 15 bus trips have already been booked, indicating increased interest and support for the zoo's educational initiatives.
The collaboration between Zoo Neuwied and the Lions Club Neuwied-Andernach has successfully addressed transport barriers, making the zoo's educational offerings more accessible to local schools. With increased capacities and booked trips, the Zoo School looks set to continue thriving and inspiring young visitors.
